A family-owned business
Gasoline Alley is a family-run business owned by Johnnie and Edie Lake. Our team has extensive experience throughout the auto industry:
- One Shop Foreman who is ASE certified and double-checks all work performed in the shop (including oil changes)
- Two ASE-certified Master Technicians
- One Ford Master Technician in transmission assembly
- Technician who has worked at Toyota, Lexus and Volvo dealerships
- One technician who worked for Chevrolet and Chrysler dealerships.
- Two Service Writers in our reception area who greet the customers, answer phones, book appointments, handle the estimates and create customer invoices.
- Two shuttle drivers
Gasoline Alley has been in business since January of 2002. Johnnie was on his own at first, working on his back in our old shop, which was not insulated and also a wind tunnel!
He purchased his first lift in March of 2002. Edie remained in her corporate job for another year before she joined Johnnie at Gasoline Alley.
In 2003, the half-acre which the old shop was located on was purchased. After spending 7 years working to get the proper permits to develop the property, construction on the new shop began in 2010.
The business moved into the new shop the first week of January in 2011. The well-lit, insulated shop has a modern waiting room with plenty of magazines to read, restrooms for clients, a staff lunchroom and change room with a shower.
The shop has a total of 7 lifts inside and 2 lifts outside, including one lift used primarily for alignments. Its exhaust system removes harmful fumes. Heating comes from a waste oil heater that recycles used oil and is cooled by two large swamp coolers.
We have many different diagnostic scanners, as well as a brake lathe, tire machine, tire balancer, coolant, transmission, power steering, brake flushes, A/C servicing, alignments, and welding.
Our mission statement
We understand that you don’t really want to spend money on vehicle repairs.
Our mission is: to treat people the way we want to be treated; to offer the best parts, at the best price and to accept the fact that we are only human and if we make a mistake, we will do our best to make it better.
Our customers are very important to us, we couldn’t make it without you! Our goal is to combine modern technology with old fashioned values so that Gasoline Alley remains the Best Little Shop in Town!
Meet Johnnie and Edie
Johnnie W. Lake (Gasoline Alley co-owner) grew up in New Jersey. From the time he was 10 years old, he was racing cars with his Dad, who functioned as his mechanic and crew chief. His dream of racing professionally was shattered when he was invited (drafted) to the Vietnam War. Joining the Air Force, he trained in electronics and became a B-Mat at the Titan Missile Sites in Arizona. He was stationed many times at the Green Valley Missile Site.
To support his racing habit, Johnnie became a mechanic. Now he is a Ford Master Technician in Transmission Assembly and has been an ASE-certified Master Technician for over 25 years. He has also been a professional mechanic for 45 years. Johnnie has his pilot’s license and has flown for over 35 years, 23 as a flight instructor. Additionally, he loves to ride anything that moves fast: horses, motorcycles, sailboats, race cars…you name it! He has also studied many styles of Martial Arts in the last 50 years and has a Black Belt in Tae Kwan Do.
Johnnie races his Ford GT at the Indy Track in Wilcox, Phoenix International Raceway, and Fire Bird Race Track. He also loves to sing and has been in several different local performances. He plays the piano and guitar and is a big fan of the video game I-Racing.
Edie B. Lake (Gasoline Alley co-owner) was raised in the village of King City in Ontario, Canada. She studied voice and piano at The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. For the majority of her adult life, she has held corporate positions with companies such as Bell Canada and Alberta Government Telephones. Edie worked a territory of 2,000 square miles in Southern Alberta when she was employed as a Sales Manager for General Mills and later for a Food Brokerage Firm.
After immigrating to the United States in 1986, Edie had a variety of jobs in Tucson and San Diego, including jewelry sales with Zales and Helzberg, as an office manager for a doctor’s office and as a senior sales associate for RBC Dain Rauscher and A.G. Edwards, obtaining her Series 7 and 63 Licenses.
Edie became an American citizen in 2005. She loves to sing and has performed in two musicals with a local Green Valley Theatre Company. Edie and Johnnie have co-written and produced two “mini-burst” (little musicals). She has sailed most of the Great Lakes and loves to fly airplanes, ride horses and motorcycles, create stained glass, play the bass guitar and fire guns.
Alley Cat Recreations
Alley Cat Recreations is the “fun part” of Gasoline Alley. This is where Johnnie gets to play. He will take an older car, such as Edie’s 1976 Corvette Stingray, and totally refurbish it.
The engine is removed and replaced, engine compartment and frame will be cleaned and painted, while adding new shocks, brakes, hoses and belts. He will clean and inspect the radiator as well, along with replacing the A/C system and retrofitting it for R-134. Finally, he renews the interior and finishes it off with a new paint job.
Johnnie’s next projects are his 1964 Ford Galaxy, 1955 Bug Eye Sprit and 1983 Sturgis Harley Davidson. Every car will have its own book, complete with picture documentation as the vehicle evolves into its former self, along with a complete record of repairs.
This is not an inexpensive venture, as passions rarely are. These vehicles will be available for sale upon completion.
Gasoline Alley’s Warranty
Thank you for your business, Gasoline Alley is both Napa Auto Care and an authorized AAA Repair Shop. Because of this, you are automatically qualified for the Napa Auto Care Peace of Mind Warranty. This warranty provides 24 months/24,000 mile coverage on qualifying services and repairs done at our shop. If you are out of town and need warranty service call 1-800-452-NAPA for help. Warranty does not apply to customer provided parts.
Gasoline Alley honors all aftermarket warranties. This process is fairly easy. Once your vehicle’s problem has been diagnosed, we call the warranty company and inform them of the issue.
Usually, most warranty contracts have a deductible that the customer must pay. Each warranty company has its own way of dealing with how much they will pay for labor and parts. Unfortunately, some companies are fairer than others.
Please bring your contract when you bring your vehicle in for repair and allow our team to look after the rest.
